The Nandi 1880- 1895
were one of a group of related tribes who livead in the forested hills around Mount Elgon in northern Kenya
Les Nandi 1880-1895
était un  groupe de tribus  qui vivais dans les collines boisées autour du  Mont Elgon au Kenya du nord, près du lac Victoria  
    
They called themselves Chemwal or «  cattle-raiders’ the name wa-nandi was a Swahili insult, meaning ‘cormorants’ and referring  to their rapacity              
 Ils était appelés Chemwal ou "les braqueurs de bétail , le nom Wa-nandi était une insulte Swahilie, signifiant ‘les cormorans’ en  se référant à leur rapacité

The hehe were a confederation of about 30 small tribes living in and around the Iringa Highlands in what is now southern Tanzania
The nama Hehe was not recorded until the 1860, and is said to be derived from their war-cry : Hee Hee Vatavagu  Twihoma Ehe

The Masai were unique among the tribes of east Africa in the fear that they inspired in Europeans , Arabs and other Africans alike
In the words of Charles New, who encountered them in the early 1870, Physically they are a splendid people and for energy intrepidity and dash they are witthout their equals in Africa

In 19 th century East Africa the word ‘Ruga Ruga ‘ was originally used to describe the rootles young hooligans-often orphaned or displaced by war or slave-raiding  -  who roamed the country making a precarious living as mercenaries, bandit or elephant-hunters

Au 19 siècle  l'Afrique orientale le mot ' Ruga Ruga ' a été à l'origine utilisé pour décrire les jeunes voyous souvent  restés orphelin , déplacé par la guerre ou les raids d'esclavagistes, ils  erraient  dans le pays menant une vie précaire comme  mercenaires,  bandit ou  chasseurs d'éléphant

                     
These first made their appearance among the Nyamwezi, who inhabited the high plateau of what is now central Tanzania and became the principale long-distance traders of the region
 The  term also came to be used for the semiprossional militia of local origin which Nyanwezi group raised to defend their villages
Ils firent leur apparition  parmi les Nyamwezi, qui  peuplait le haut plateau de ce qu'est maintenant la Tanzanie centrale et sont devenue les principaux commercent de la région, le terme a aussi été utilisé pour les milices semi professionnel d'origine locale que les  Nyanwezi on levée pour défendre leurs villages
