
Oscar Temaru, the newly elected "independentist" President of French Polynesia has announced that his Government plans to build a new International Airport in Tubuai. This multi-million dollar project will mean direct flights for the Tubuai Islanders to New york, Sydney and Japanese destinations. While many of the local residents seem excited about the future prospects of flying directly to these global hot spots, few seemed concerned with the eventual threat of massive air and noise polution.
