FISH
Coral formations in shallow waters and sheltered parts of the reef are inhabited by
thousand of species of colourful animals :
fish, shelfish, crustaceans, warms,...etc. 
The easiest way to enjoy watching lagoon fauna is snorkeling, but you also
have an option with HELMET DIVE for underwater experience. No need to learn
anything, the dive is only about 5 meters down so it feels safe all the way.
(about 30 mns dive per small groups up to 4 persons at a time, + 30 mns snorkeling).

If you travel with kids you can not miss the LAGOONARIUM, on motu Ahi (private islet with a fish park) Located at Afareaitu (PK8) just a few miles from the wharf. This little patch of paradise is a friendly place where you will swim with stingrays, baby sharks, turtles, a lots of friendly fish, a glass bottom boat (Aquascope) in the fish park allows the younger ones to catch great underwater views. Snorkeling gear, Beach Kayaks disposable on site.

Moorea is well known for STING RAYS and SHARKS FEEDING excursions,
never the less we recommend you visit sharks outside of the
reef 
(while scuba diving for example) and feed the fish, not the sharks.

sting rays (kayak excursion). At a good spot for sting rays you don't have to feed them,
they will come to check on you anyway and even let you touch them harmessly if you are gentle.

outside the reef by boat and be able to swim with them,
with snorkeling gear enroped to the boat (TIP'NAUTIC SHARK DISCOVERY).
When the sea is surging we have to change the excursion into STING RAY DISCOVERY in shallow waters.
SEA MAMMALS ENCOUNTERS
Different
DOLPHIN colonies live around Moorea year round, some time they find
protection inside the lagoon. Scientists study them and different tours take you
to their playing areas.
These animals should never be disturb in their rythms. That's why we recommand you try Dolphin Quest Programs at Moorea Beachcomber where you will be welcomed to learn more about sea mammals and even play in the water with dolphins used to humans.

2 years ago French Polynesia was established as a WHALES SANCTUARY and 6 month a year they rest, often with youngs, around the lagoons. They can be seen from a distance with very much care for their safety. Some rules must be followed like :

A boat should never cut their way, get inside a group or be in between a young and the group |

A boat should never come too close since these giants can easily hit the boat while moving around. |
